Every year, BEWASCO conducts a comprehensive water quality audit across all its distribution networks, storage tanks, and public kiosks. The 2025 audit was carried out in partnership with the Gedo Regional Health Office and an independent laboratory based in Mogadishu.
Water samples were collected from 34 different points across the network including:
Each sample was tested for bacterial contamination, chemical composition, turbidity, pH levels, and residual chlorine.
| Test Parameter | WHO Safe Limit | BEWASCO Result | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| E. coli (CFU/100ml) | 0 | 0 | Pass |
| Total Coliform | Less than 1 | 0 | Pass |
| pH Level | 6.5 to 8.5 | 7.2 | Pass |
| Turbidity (NTU) | Less than 5 | 1.8 | Pass |
| Residual Chlorine (mg/L) | 0.2 to 1.0 | 0.45 | Pass |
| Total Dissolved Solids (mg/L) | Less than 600 | 312 | Pass |
All 34 tested points passed every WHO parameter. The water supplied by BEWASCO is safe to drink directly from the tap or kiosk without further treatment. This result reflects BEWASCO ongoing investment in water treatment, chlorination, and pipeline maintenance.
We are proud to confirm that every drop of water we deliver meets international safety standards. The health of our community is our highest priority. - BEWASCO Technical Director
The next scheduled audit will take place in Q1 2026. BEWASCO also conducts surprise spot-checks every quarter. Full audit reports are available at the BEWASCO main office upon request.
