BEWASCO Launches Free Water Access Program for Low-Income Families

Sunday, 07 June 2026
BEWASCO introduced a subsidized water program giving free monthly water allocations to over 150 vulnerable and low-income households across Beledhawa town.

Program Background

Access to clean water should not be a luxury. Recognizing that many families in Beledhawa struggle to afford regular water bills, BEWASCO launched its Water for All social support program in early 2025.

How the Program Works

Eligible households receive a free monthly water allocation of 500 litres enough for drinking, cooking, and basic hygiene. Families that qualify include:

  • Households headed by widows or elderly individuals
  • Families with disabled members unable to work
  • Internally displaced persons (IDPs) registered in Beledhawa
  • Households with a monthly income below the poverty threshold

Registration Process

Community leaders and local NGO partners helped identify and register beneficiaries. Each household was issued a BEWASCO Support Card scanned at kiosks to collect their monthly allocation at no cost.

This program has saved my family. I am a widow with five children and now I do not worry about water anymore. - Halima Mohamud, beneficiary
